new or old timer. This is the uptodate replacement for the film camera
classics of John Shaw.

John and Barbara Gerlach’s book is packed with information,suggestions, and wonderful pictures that will capture your attention and peak your interest in digital photography. You will read and reread this book always gleaning additional information from its pages. It is a real handbook for digital nature photography and is hands down the best money you can spend if you have an interest in nature photography! Easy,enjoyable,understandable . . . a must have!

While I enjoyed reading this book and found many useful tips, the number of typographical errors (e. g. punctuation) and poorly crafted sentences diminished the experience. This book is worth recommending for its photographic content, but you will have to ignore the quality of writing in order to truly enjoy it. It is obvious that the editor spent little to no time working with the author and simply accepted the content as drafted. Too bad because Gerlach has a lot to offer and could deliver more effectively with better writing.

The Gerlachs have a well-deserved reputation for excellent teaching of photographic techniques whether in a workshop setting or in a book.
This book covers in detail the basic issues in taking pictures whether digitally or with film.
